Wednesday, April 14, 2010. We had breakfast delivered early and then had the hotel car take us to the airport. Before leaving, the Director of Marketing for the hotel, Christophe, introduced himself and thanked us for our stay. We arrived at the airport and had a quite painless check-in and then went to the Air France lounge to wait for our flight.
Charles de Gaulle airport is quite amazing! They had Playstation 3’s for the older children to use, complimentary computers with internet access, and even a children’s play area. It was extremely clean and state of the art.
The flight to Kiev was about 3 hours long and uneventful. When we landed, we took a shuttle bus to the terminal where Alex (a VIP Customs Agent) was waiting for us. He took us immediately to the front of the long line, handed our passports over to an agent, and he literally ran us through all lines, customs, and officials without any waiting or checks. He just waved us right through as other custom agents wanted to check our bags. It was something to see. Nastya (our facilitator) was waiting for us right outside Customs, and we got in her van immediately and drove to the Intercontinental Hotel in Kiev. It was about a 45 min car ride. This is an excellent, beautiful, brand-new hotel with 5 star accommodations and 3 great restaurants. We had dinner at the hotel’s French restaurant and then sat in the bar afterwards.
Kiev is actually a beautiful city with very good looking people. It is a cultural center with many learning institutions and several universities. Most people here are well educated and most speak perfect English.
